Tune into the Jazz Hacienda on CJAM 99.1 FM this Saturday (July 16, 2011) between 6 and 8 pm for a timely interview with Detroit music iconoclast Don Was.
Was is the co-founder of Was (Not Was), an act that truly defies classification. Fans will no doubt both see and hear that range Saturday when The Don Was Detroit All-Star Revue plays free at 8:30 at Orchestra Hall in Detroit. It’s part of Detroit’s Concert of Colors celebration, which runs through Sunday.
Was’ revue will include Mitch Ryder with the Detroit Cobras, the Brothers Groove, the Muggs, Jim McCarty, Black Irish, Wendell Harrison, and Martha Reeves, among others.
In an interview set to air on the Jazz Hacienda about 90 minutes before his Concert of Colors extravaganza, Was tells CJAM listeners how this is his night to be Ed Sullivan and put on a really big show with Detroit's diverse talent at his fingertips.
As for Was (Not Was), the legendary band Was co-founded has not put out a studio album since “Boo!” in 2008, so Was will speak to that absence and give CJAM listeners a hint or two as to when they might see and hear Was (Not Was) next.
That’s this Saturday from 6 to 8 pm on the Jazz Hacienda on CJAM 99.1 FM in Windsor-Detroit. Worldwide, the show can be heard live online at www.cjam.ca and check this space for an mp3 download of the program after the fact.
